May 25, 2011-Fox Gets Squirrel-Weasel Gets Chippy

The male fox early in the morning.

He catches one of the adult squirrels and heads off into the woods with it. Probably to bring the catch to the pups.

The female

Chipmunks enjoying the afternoon sun. But not for long.

The weasel was out there running through the rock wall and out he came with a chipmunk. Carried it off under the bush. Couldn't see where he went. Poor little chipmunk. I like them and I do feel sad when they get killed.

The weasel was back in a short time looking for more critters in the wall. These pictures are blurry and not good because I lifted them off the video I took. I never did get any still pictures.

You have a great view of nature in the raw. Nature makes the squirrels and chipmunks prolific so that they can sustain the predators. I makes me sad to watch but that is the way of things.
You know, I often wonder about the vultures, too. You wouldn't think there would be that much carrion around to sustain so many of them.

Here we see the food chain.

It makes me sad for the victims, but the predators will get to eat, and I like seeing them too.

Survival of the fittest. An area with lots of activity brings in the predators often.
