February 8th Was A Beautiful Day If You Like Snow

Early morning and the squirrels were running all over the place, waiting for me to feed them.

The snow was covering the trees so pretty.

Squirrels scampering up and down the trees and running up and down the snow covered wall.

View of the back hill and the squirrel's favorite tree at 6:30 am. Took these with the flash but photos never look as good as the real thing.

The colorful cardinal looked so nice against the white snow.

More squirrels on the tree and running up the tree trunk.

How pretty the bushes looked with all that snow on them and with the cardinal sitting in the middle of it all.

Squirrels, squirrels everywhere! I counted twenty of them.

Birds and squirrels

A beautiful male cardinal

And the female cardinal is just as beautiful as she sits there in the snowy bushes

There are more of those Starlings showing up now. Two of them were sitting on the branch next to a Mourning Dove and some were in the bushes with the cardinals and sparrows.

And of course we can't forget our little Junco. There are lots of them but they are cute little things.

A cute squirrel in the snow

The wind blew the snow onto this tree. It's the same tree that has the squirrel's nest at the top.

A Mourning Dove flying to a branch and the BlueJays sitting inside the bush with a cardinal.

The favorite 'Bird Bush" where they all gather to stay warm.

This day started out at 27 degrees at 6:30 am and by 10:30 am it was already down to 17 degrees and getting colder. Got down to zero last night.
It wasn't a great day for us here at this building. The power went off at 6:30 am and never came back on till 10:30 am. It was starting to get cold and was down to 60 in the community room but wasn't that cold in my apartment. I would worry about my pets if it got real cold though.
One of the towers nearby snapped from the snow and cold I guess and knocked out power in some parts of Mohawk and over the bridge in Herkimer. Sure glad they got it fixed in that amount of time. Don't need power off when it's heading into the low teens and down to zero!! Yikes! This building is all electric. But everything worked out okay.

February 3rd and 4th-2011-9 Below Zero ! Yikes!

It was a beautiful, sunny day on Thursday. It got up to about 25 degrees. I love how more colorful the birds look when the sun is out. Much prettier photos!

I was watching this icicle dripping and caught one of the drips but the icicle itself wasn't as clear in that photo but was in the other but no drip..ha ha ! There's way too many icicles hanging from this roof. I sure hope the roof holds up. There's a lot of snow up there right now.

Early morning on the 4th (Friday). The sun is just starting to peek through the woods and the BlueJays and squirrels are all out there despite the nine degree below zero temps.

This big Crow was sitting high up on that tree branch, watching for any danger that might come around. I like how they warn all the other animals.

This bush was real frosty this morning but the little birdies were still out there in it.

This squirrel was hanging around that nest. Not sure if it belongs to that squirrel or not. He sort of was digging the snow off the top and checking the bottom of it. If it's an abandoned nest he or she might want to use it. Most of the females are carrying babies now and should already have their nests set up.

That squirrel stood there like that for quite a while, watching something.

A BlueJay and a Male Cardinal with some Sparrows in the bush.

This is how the sky looked at the end of today. You might know it cleared up a little just at dark. It was cloudy when I went out in the afternoon.

It's been real cold in the mornings again here. Zero on the 3rd and 9 below this morning on the 4th. But eventually it got up to 25 degrees and I went out to the store. The little birdies looked so cold sitting on the frosted branches this morning. The sun was beautiful for a short while in the morning, then it clouded up for the rest of the day and it started clearing up at sunset. Made the sky look pretty anyway. Not much going on. Haven't seen one fox in a few weeks now and no deer at all. So all I have to watch these days is the birds and squirrels. They are entertaining though.

The Snow And Critters-February-1st And 2nd-2011

Early morning snowfall on the 1st of February. Looked almost like rain coming down. The hawk is up on a branch just waiting to catch something. A couple of squirrels went right up there and chased him away. I didn't get that on camera. They seem to be doing that a lot lately. Because they are building nests now for their babies and don't want the hawk around.

All the birds taking refuge in the bushes.

Waiting for the snow to let up a bit.

The squirrels and Cardinals. All snowy.

A male squirrel trying to grab hold of a female in the top right photo. An injured squirrel in the bottom photos. Maybe he fell out of a tree or a female bit him. But he was bleeding pretty bad for a while on his ear and the side of his head. Lots of them get hurt at this time of year. Especially because it's mating season they are chasing through the trees so fast.

A male cardinal in the falling snow. And a House Sparrow just coming in for a landing.

More birds.

A squirrel checking out the territory to see where that hawk went. The hawk is hiding up there on a branch again. This was the morning of February 2nd after we got a few more inches of snow.

Cardinals and sparrows in the bushes and a pretty little Tufted Titmouse.

This is that injured squirrel. He's healing up well.

A squirrel sitting in the bush eating a nut. And some pretty BlueJays.

The snow outside my window last night and a lonely leaf getting blown around on top of it.

The Last Photos From January-2011

It's a new month and I'm hoping I will get to see the deer soon. I usually get the best photos of them in February. Meanwhile these are the last photos for January.
We got the first round of snow this morning. Now it has stopped but the big storm will start after midnight and drop sleet on us and then about 9 inches of snow. We were supposed to get over a foot of snow but since it might be some sleet they have knocked the amounts down to about 9 inches. Won't know till Wednesday has come and gone. I'll be all safe and warm in my little apartment. Today there are tons of birds. They know it's going to storm and want to get as much food as possible. Lots of squirrels too. I'll have those pics up tomorrow. I love snow storms!!
