The Mom Squirrel Getting Her Kids To Follow-5-4-2011-Videos

All three babies on the tree trunk as their mother tries to get them to follow her down.

The mother is to the left on a small branch that leads over to another tree. The little ones are afraid to go over but eventually one does and the mom takes it to the other nest. Then she comes back to try and get the others to follow. The videos show all this. Sorry for the shaky video. It was hard holding the camera steady and following them.

The mother squirrel did not keep the babies in the original nest too long. Only for one night. Later on this day she wanted them to follow her. They are too big to carry now. One did finally follow her then she came back to get the other two. They wouldn't go over the branch that she wanted them to so finally she jumped over to their tree and led them down to the ground. Off they went to one of the other nests she has. I haven't seen them since. Not the babies. Just the mom. But I'm sure the little ones will be right over as soon as they go off on their own or follow their mom. The mom still comes over every day. I'd rather have the babies stay away right now because of that weasel hanging around.
This will be the end of my baby squirrel nest saga..Ha! Ha!

May 4th At Night-Foxes And A Skunk

That skunk kept putting his tail up to the foxes but he never sprayed them. There were three adult foxes out on this night but I could only catch two in the photos. They keep moving around too much.

May 4th-Critters-BlueJays-Baby Squirrels

Two Baby squirrels outside their nest. The mother took them back to their original nest. There are only three. At first I though there were four.

This baby squirrel lives in the back woods. He's around every day now.

From May 3, 2011-The Baby Squirrels With Mom Videos

The mother squirrel was repairing the first nest yesterday and the babies are back there now, although I did not see her move them. But they are big enough now to be climbing all over the trees with their mom. These videos show them climbing up and down that big tree. They seem to be doing real well. I thought there were four babies but I'm not quite sure. I know there are three for sure. I watched them today, the 4th, also. Will have those pics up tomorrow and another video to show you. I am putting two here. One from the first time I saw them back in the nest and then later in the day when they were climbing all over the tree. Enjoy!

May 2, 2011-Mother Squirrel Repairing Nest Again

I spotted mommy squirrel up near her old nest and she was breaking twigs off and taking them to that nest. If she was doing that then I figured she must have moved her babies back up to that first one again. I did not see her move them though.

She'd take a few then relax before she started working again. I have never seen a squirrel work so hard.

This is one of the babies from back in the woods. I am seeing more of them now and really enjoy watching them.

Here's the mother again in the evening doing more repair work.

Busy, busy busy

She finally stopped and relaxed then went into the nest for the night. Did not see any of the babies at this time.

The female Gray Fox sitting under the bush eating her treat.

Later after dark the other two fox mates were out there until this skunk showed up. Then they left. That skunk had it's tail high up but it never sprays the foxes.

May 1, 2011-Young Squirrels, Fox, Mourning Dove

The oldest female Gray Fox. She always comes right down in the yard and come most every day around 3:30.

Hang on there little squirrel!

Baby squirrels are so cute! But I do worry about them because they aren't as attentive to danger as their mom is. I'm sure the foxes will get a few. Or even a hawk. Just hope I never see it. And I hope they don't get all those bumps on them like the young ones did two years ago. That was awful to see and so sad.

A Mourning Dove cleaning itself and a Tufted Titmouse.

He's so cute. I think they must be around 3 months old. Maybe more. But they do leave at around 12 weeks old and go on their own but I think they still go back to the nest till they are around six months old.

Last Photos Of April, 2011

These are the woods out in back. Some men were back there cutting down trees in the morning. There goes some of the animal's homes. I'm sure there were bird nests back there and some squirrel nests. When the trees fell all I could think of was some baby squirrels getting killed. That's what happens. Men move into the animal's territory and they have less and lees area to live in. Then people wonder why they have animals wandering around there yards.. pretty soon that area will be all open space and lots more water will drain down also.

Here's a little Vole. And a European Starling being nosy.

This BlueJay was chopping his nut apart and eating it.

This is the new little squirrel that comes around now. He seems to be the only one so far. His tree has been spared so far but it is right in that area.

A Turkey Hawk flying overhead and a squirrel jumping off a branch. Also the little one is up in the tree. What a beautiful day it was! Only in the 50's but perfect for me.

The Mourning Doves are always around. They were all upset when those guys were chopping down the trees. All the birds were very upset. As well as the squirrels. I never heard them so noisy. Can't blame them. Some were afraid they were losing their homes and some did.

And my last photos for the day were these two chipmunks hiding from the female fox.
