February 26, 2010-18 Inches Of Snow

By the time I woke up this morning there was 18 inches of snow altogether from the 25th and overnight snowfall. It was beautiful out there! But I could hardly see up over the rock wall. I can't get up on my stool any more to open the top part of my window so I had to do the best I could taking photos today. My wrist hurts sometimes when I push the camera button and when I'm trying to hold my camera up but I am managing pretty good now. So here's a few collaged photos from today.

A Little Hawk Catches A Starling-2-24-2010

This little hawk swooped down below my window and got a Starling. This is the closest I've ever saw him and you might know it was hard for me to get my camera ready but I got these pics and a short video after he flew off with it and was eating it. We had some snow overnight. It looked real pretty till it all melted away later. More coming tomorrow. The little bird on the ground is a Nuthatch. And a squirrel on the tree.

February 17, 2010

Haven't been posting lately. I broke my wrist in another bad fall last Wed. night. It's so hard to take photos now but I managed these. I really have to use the tripod and it isn't good for much.
I have a new unwanted critter in my rock wall. Haven't gotten a picture of it yet but hope to. I just spotted it this morning. A RAT! I haven't seen one in a couple years and was hoping I never would but with all the food out there it was bound to happen again. The trouble with a rat is in the spring they will kill the chipmunks. In years past I managed to kill them by climbing out my window at night and placing poisoned peanut butter balls in their path. It always worked but now I can't climb out there any more so I guess I will have to stop feeding all the animals and birds. Maybe that is why all this is happening too. I can't throw the nuts out over the rock wall since I broke my wrist, so the foxes have to come down close if they want any. The deer don't need any. And I really shouldn't be feeding them anyway. It's the squirrels that will be the hardest to get rid of. They will chew on my windows if they don't get fed. But maybe I will just have to stop and see what happens. I won't be able to look at their faces begging me. It will be sad but it will be the best for all of us. Besides, I'm not going to be around that much longer so it will stop at that time. And if I end up in the hospital they won't get fed either. It has been fun for the past 13 years though.
By the way. Learning to use the mouse and type with my left hand, one fingered, has been a challenge also!

February 10, 2010-A Birds

We got a little snow today. Wish it had been more though. I don't think we even got a half inch. The squirrels were enjoying it. The deer and foxes didn't come down till after dark so didn't get any photos of them. And I can't get up on my little stool to look out the top of my bedroom window to take flash pics. My leg is too sore to do that yet. That is my strongest leg. I can't step up with the other leg at all. I sure don't want to be falling off a 5 inch stool.. Besides, I have enough photos I think..Ha! Ha!
