The Rest Of The Cardinal Family After The Death

These are some of the cardinals that came after the death of that male earlier.
I can tell that they all know what happened.

February 21st Was A Sad Day For A Cardinal

I lost one of the male cardinals. I heard a very loud noise like something hit the building. I went into the living room to look out the window and there laid a beautiful male cardinal. I could tell it was already dead. Blood was coming from it's mouth. I think the hawk came down and tried to get him and hit the building also but didn't get to carry the cardinal away. Whatever happened it died quick and I am thankful for that. I've never had a cardinal hit the windows before and when a bird does hit it isn't that loud. Not a bird or squirrel was around for quite some time so I'm sure it was the hawk. I felt so bad for his mate. Now she won't have her partner and won't have babies this spring probably. I'm not sure but I thought they mated for life. She will be real sad. The cardinals all came back later and a few of the females. I'm not sure which one belongs to him. One male came down to inspect the situation. He probably went back and informed the rest of the family. They all hung out together in a group. I didn't know if any of the females came down next to him or not because my grandchildren came so I was busy and not looking out the window. I have only five pair of Cardinals here. A few are the younger ones that were born last year. The one that died was an older one. So pretty. I took a picture of him. Later at night I reached out with my grabber and moved him to the alley by my bedroom window where the foxes come. It was frozen solid by that time. This morning it was gone. A little morsel of meat for one of them anyway. That's nature.

February 19th And 20th Collages-Birds-Squirrels And Deer

Sparrows and Juncos on the 19th when it was cold and blustery.

The next day on the 20th it was bright and sunny and calm. Made for a pretty day but it was still very cold. As you can see the squirrel's nest made it through all that wind okay. Good job Squirrel!!

Tufted Titmouse, Junco, Sparrow and a Starlings

Female squirrels. A few look like they are feeding young ones but this one doesn't yet. The one going up the tree looks like she's feeding because her fur on her belly is worn off a bit. I have to get a closer look though to really know.

The deer at dusk again on top of the rock wall. These aren't that good because it was getting dark and it's hard to take pictures through the window and try not to shake the camera.

February 19, 2011-Cold, Blustery Day

Early morning. The squirrels were all over the place even though it was so windy.

Some of the birds that braved the wind today. Blue Jays, Starlings and even a little Tufted Titmouse.

This poor squirrel was trying to repair it's nest. The wind had damaged it. She or he worked for a few hours straight on this nest. Hope there aren't any babies in it yet. If babies ever do get in that one and fall, they will surely die. It's a long way up and no protection for them.

I felt sorry for the outdoor critters today. It was so windy and snowy and blustery cold. Quite a difference from yesterday's 55 degree weather. Only in the teens all day today.

It was such a pretty day and this BlueJay was sitting up in that tree, matching the pretty blue sky.

February 15, 2011-The Deer At Dusk

This was in the early morning as the sun was peeking through the woods and the squirrels and BlueJays were all over the place.

This deer was coming down from the hill in the evening. It was almost 6:00 pm.

Two of the deer waiting by the woods. They got spooked for a second and ran. Now they are checking out the territory to make sure it's safe to come back for some apples and nuts.

Another deer is coming down from the back hill but stayed off in the distance.

These two finally ventured back over to where I could see them better but it was starting to get too dark to get good photos. I have to take them from behind the window. If I could have opened the window and used the flash I'd get better ones but I did not want them to run away. I'd rather observe them as long as I can.

Don't know where the injured nose one was. Didn't see him at all. He was probably off wandering around by himself in another area.

See the squirrel sitting on the branch as the deer walks by?

This deer came out at 1:30 in the afternoon. Then another came.

This poor thing has all that Burdock stuck to his tail. He can't even wag his tail. Or lift it to go to the bathroom.

Then he headed home, walking slowly back over the hill until he was out of my view.
