They will take and take till it's all gone, filling up their cheeks so full and running back to their dens to unload. I sure would like to see the inside of their dens..Ha! ratty. Your eastern nuthatch is much more colorful than the one we have in California. Sorry about the rat problem. The voles are cute but they are very destructive to my garden so I try to trap them. I'm only occasionally successful. I hope things will be better for you once you get your cast off.
